About

Dgéba is a fictional language created by Anna Safiatou Touré and used throughout Gamanké Museum. Constantly evolving, it draws in particular on the sounds of Bambara and Songhay, spoken by her father in Mali, alongside influences from other West and Central African languages. Faced with the non-transmission of her family languages, the artist invents her own means of transmission. Stepping outside French and English becomes an intimate, poetic and political gesture.
